Not her again

Michele Bachmann, probably dreaming of Christian dominance

I cannot believe Michele Bachmann is actually still around yacking about god and government. Now, having listened to what she had to say, I have no clue what she is seeing. She thinks Trump is very Christian and she sees "good things" coming out of the White House. I don't know how many times she says that Trump is a hard worker, and she talks about prayer and how Trump prays. "The Lord is working mightily in our government," she declares.

I have no idea what she sees. I guess all you have to do is speak vaguely about things and god and prayer.

There is something scary in her speech. She says the left is afraid that people will be forced to be Christian, and that Biblical principles "work." First off, for the record, I actually haven't been worried about being forced to be Christian. I don't want people  forced by their government to obey laws that only have a basis in some Christian beliefs. I also don't want to see Christianity privileged above all other faiths and lack of any faith.

I don't know which "Biblical principles" she is referencing. My guess is this is all about abortion, contraception, LGBTQ issues, and Islam, though. My worries in this regard are:

(1) Abortion would be criminalized. This would disproportionately affect poor people as rich people would be able to travel or have the procedure done by a trusted medical professional.

(2) Some forms of contraception (like birth control pills) would be made illegal.

(3) LGBTQ individuals would lose the equality they fought for. Not just marriage equality either. "Religious freedom" laws would permit bullying, firing, evicting and generally treating them as lesser than.

(4) Although religious freedom would probably remain in place, it would be commonplace to see minority religions bullied, demonized, treated as other. Every Muslim would be a potential terrorist; every atheist would be demonic.

I know that Bachmann does not represent a majority of Christians. I know plenty of religious people who believe that abortion is about bodily autonomy and contraception a personal matter. They know that LBGTQ individuals are not "making a choice" and that they deserve equality. Many Christians welcome them into their congregations. And finally, most Christians I know believe in true religious freedom. But she does represent a great number of those who have a giant microphone, a radio platform, and even a seat in congress.

We need to stand against the ignorance of people like Michele Bachmann.
